Great local results at the 2017 Western Australian Boutique Wine Show and 2017 Blackwood Valley Wine Show saw several of our region’s winery owners proudly step up to claim a majority of trophies during the awards presentations held on Saturday 21 October.

Entry in the WA Boutique Wine Show is limited to West Australian wine producers who produce up to 250 tonnes of wine grapes a year, with the Blackwood Valley Wine Show open to all wine producers located in the Blackwood Valley Wine Region. This year, 205 entries from 39 boutique wine producers were judged over 2 days by an expert panel of wine judges. 65% of all wines entered in the Show received a medal, including many from local producers.

A 2016 Chardonnay from Whimwood Estate in Nannup dominated the awards this year, taking out not only the trophy for Best Blackwood Valley White Table Wine, but also Best WA White Table Wine and Best Boutique Wine of the Show. White Gate Wine, also Nannup based, was awarded the trophy for Best Blackwood Valley Red Table Wine for their 2014 Cabernet Merlot. The region’s largest producer, Latitude 34, received the trophy for Most Successful Blackwood Valley Exhibitor.

Downderry Wines in Narrogin won the trophy for Best WA Red Table Wine with their 2015 Shiraz, with Faber Vineyard in the Swan Valley receiving the trophy for the Most Successful Exhibitor of Show.

“In awarding Whimwood Estate the trophy for Best Boutique Wine of Show, the judges are saying that this is the best wine out of the 205 wines entered from all over Western Australia; a truly outstanding result.”

“We are thrilled with the results and inspired to keep producing and presenting quality wine alongside other local producers from the Blackwood Valley wine region,” said Maree Tinker of Whimwood Estate.
