AFTER an exhaustive selection process, Bibber International is pleased to announce that the winner of The Esther Knewitz Memorial Scholarship 2014 is Jessica Clark.
Clark is a current student of the masters of oenology at The University of Adelaide and the scholarship will give her the opportunity to extend her winemaking skills by completing a vintage in Germany from September to November this year at Reh-Kendermann winery.
The idea behind the scholarship is to keep Esther Knewitz’s memory alive and support young people in the Australian wine industry who have the same zest for life and community spirit.
Knewitz was an oenology student at Geisenheim University, Germany and during her holidays in 2004 she came to Australia to gain work experience for the vintage season.
Sadly she died in a tragic motor vehicle accident when she was just 24-years-old, putting an end to her promising winemaking career.
All applications were judged by Anne and Horst Knewitz, Esther’s Parents; Philipp Maurer, Winemaker at Reh-Kendermann in Germany; and Sue Caloghiris, CEO of Bibber International.
All the judges were very impressed with the high level of the applications; however Clark’s application was outstanding.
As part of the priceless work experience that Clark will get at Reh-Kendermann winery in Germany, she will also get return airfares, accommodation, all visa fees and $1000 spending money.
The Esther Knewitz Memorial Scholarship has been available for Australian winemakers since 2006, supporting young and enthusiastic winemakers to gain international work experience in Germany.
The scholarship is managed by Bibber International, a South Australian-based company that provides vintage opportunities in the US, Germany, Austria, France and other destinations.
