The South Australian Wine Industry Association (SAWIA) has officially launched a new Efficient Wineries Program that will help wineries reduce costs and increase efficiency by implementing lean manufacturing principles.

SAWIA has partnered with Zero Waste SA to trial the adoption of a new guide for implementing lean manufacturing principles in wineries.

The guide was recently developed by the Grape and Wine Research and Development Corporation, and the first stage of the project is a pilot trial for six South Australian wineries to “test-drive” this guide while an independent expert undertakes a high-level assessment of their manufacturing facilities.

Subject to a successful outcome of the trial, SAWIA will aim to secure further funding to assist in expanding the project to encourage adoption across the South Australian wine industry.
