So long, farewell: Vintessential Laboratories managing director Greg Howell joined Peter O’Reilly and John Neville at the formal farewell celebrations.

QUEENSLAND College of Wine Tourism (QCWT) chair professor Helen Garnett recently announced the appointment of Peter O’Reilly as chief executive officer of the college.

Based in Stanthorpe, the college is a joint venture between the University of Southern Queensland and the Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment (DETE) and includes the Queensland branch office of Vintessential Laboratories.

This innovative approach to the synergy of wine production, tourism and education was conceived by retiring chief executive officer John Neville.

Professor Garnett praised Neville’s eleven years of commitment to the QCWT.

“John Neville worked tirelessly for four years as project director conceiving the college, developing the joint venture partnership, planning and overseeing construction and subsequently he gave seven years outstanding service as CEO,” she said.

“He has forged productive relationships with business, industry groups and schools across the region and further afield, as well as fostering win-win partnerships.”

Vintessential Laboratories has been closely involved with the QCWT since 2009 when it took over management of the wine testing service initiated by Neville.

Since then Vintessential has increased the services offered to local growers to include water and plant testing and the supply of winemaking products.

Seminars and practical laboratory sessions have also been offered by Vintessential to local winemakers and visiting school children.

The appointment of Peter O’Reilly, whose previous appointments have been in tourism in the Whitsundays, will continue the close relationship with DETE in fostering Skills Formation Strategies plus close involvement with schools, vocational and higher education providers and the wine industry.
