IMG_1491WINE Australia, in partnership with Study Adelaide, hosted more than 80 language students from Japan in a tasting event at the National Wine Centre yesterday.

Wine Australia’s regional manager for Asia Hiro Tejima and Melbourne-based Japanese sommelier Masahiko Iga conducted the event and began by speaking about Australia and its wine culture.

Masahiko then introduced wine and wine tasting basics using four ‘regional heroes’ – Clare Riesling, Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, McLaren Vale Grenache and Barossa Shiraz.

The two-hour seminar finished with a ‘self-discovery’ tasting of 12 wines and the students left with a guide to Adelaide-based wine shops and Japanese importers.

The majority of students are studying language at the University of Adelaide and attended the event to discover South Australia’s wine culture, different varietals and wine characteristics.
