AUSTRALIAN wine trade and hospitality professionals including sommeliers and retailers will have the chance to expand their Australian wine knowledge through A+ Australian Wine One Day Wine Schools held in Sydney and Melbourne over the coming months.

The two One Day Wine Schools, held by Wine Australia for the second year running, aim to provide a deeper understanding of Australian wine and regions.

As part of the course, participants can opt to do a written exam and blind tasting for a chance to be in the running for a five-day trip throughout the Yarra Valley, King Valley, Riverland and Langhorne Creek.

The course will include a structured insight into the climate, micro-climate and geology of the regions, wine production and the current state of the industry, with 30 wines tasted as part of themed tastings.

Wine Australia regional director for Australia, Asia and emerging markets Aaron Brasher, who will be hosting the courses, said the schools aimed to garner a deeper connection and understanding of the quality and diversity of Australia’s wine offering among Australia’s wine trade professionals.

“Our One Day Wine Schools aim to expand sommeliers’ and retailers’ theoretical knowledge of Australian wine styles and regions, to help open their eyes to the diverse selection of top quality wines from their own backyard,” Brasher said.

“Australian sommeliers, retailers and other hospitality professionals are obviously highly skilled and knowledgeable about wine in general, but we want to demonstrate how well Australian wines stack up against the rest of the world, so they can share their knowledge and help influence purchasing decisions in retail outlets, restaurants, hotels, bars and pubs.

“We encourage wine trade and hospitality professionals to join us for a day and challenge their perceptions of Australian wine, while demonstrating their skill and expertise.”
