Grapegrower & Winemaker’s man on the ground Jim Fortune has filed this report during his visit to SIMEI in Italy last week.
He asks: could this grape press be designed by the submarine corporation?
First impression is the wall of gleaming stainless steel, second is “what way up does it go?” and third is watch the video for clarification. It is a continuous static press with some very bold claims by its developers which include juice yield and quality, foot print in winery and energy consumption. Apparently been in development and testing for a number of years, but a web search suggests only comparatively recent publicity, with much of the associated literature still seeming to be in Italian. Fascinating to see something quite different amongst the huge array of presses at SIMEI.
